Types of Ho Marriage

TYPES OF HO MARRIAGE In Ho language, Marriage is called as “Aandi”. In Ho Community, there are basically 5 types of Marriage:-  Ang Aandi  Diku Aandi  Kepeya Aandi  Oportipi Aandi  Anader Aandi Ang Aandi This type Marriage happens when the bride takes farewell from her father’s house and goes to groom’s house to marry with the groom. Diku Aandi This type Marriage occurs when the groom goes to bride’s house to marry. Usually in this type of marriage, it happens through the help of a Brahmin. Kepeya Aandi The Boy i.e.Groom and the Girl i.e. Bride both fall in love with each other and both elope away from either of their houses and after that both their families gives approval of their marriage. Oportipi Aandi In this type of Marriage, the Groom forcibly takes away girl from a Haat or Porob (Festival) and conducts marriage. Anader Aandi In this kind of Marriage, the Girl i.e. the Bride forcibly go and lives at Boy’s House whom she wants to marry. This type marriage is a forced one and is now not practiced these days.
